Biography

  Tim Wilson MSc MCIPR

I have engaged with all levels of policymaking, bringing successful results and building organisational reputations.

As an independent consultant I've provided effective long-term support for clients, often at CEO/Board level, to improve engagement and policy outcomes from UK government, Welsh government and local government.

A strong track record with the media/creative industries has led to work with Channel 4, Directors UK, the Commercial Broadcasters Association (CoBA) and Rondo Media.

Long-standing current clients include: AudioUK, which represents the UK audio production sector, for whom I began working in 2009, served as acting Managing Director for five months in 2021 and on their behalf am a Board Director of the Educational Recording Agency and the Audio Content Fund; Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru (TAC) which represents the independent TV production sector in Wales, for whom I began working in 2010; Hornsey Housing Trust, a North London not-for-profit housing association, for whom I began working in 2012; and I conduct regular training courses and presentations on public affairs and media relations, including for the International School of Communication (ISOC).

Until March 2005 I was Director of Policy at TV and film trade association Pact, which successfully amended legislation to protect producers' intellectual property.

Prior to this I was a senior consultant at Westminster Strategy and Political Context, delivering successful programmes for Microsoft; Eutelsat; Lincolnshire County Council; Roche Pharmaceuticals and a variety of other businesses, NGOs and others.

I began my career in 1988 working with public pressure campaign groups on issues such as freedom of information. Subsequent roles included designing and running health promotion campaigns, information/press work for a leading science policy think-tank and running health promotion campaigns for an NHS authority.

I was educated at a state secondary school in London, followed by the University of the West of England, where I gained a degree in Social Science/Politics, subsequently I gained an MSc in Corporate Communications from Aberdeen Business School.

I am a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, the professional association for communications consultants. As such I am bound by its Code of Conduct and feature on its Register .

I am also a member of the Royal Television Society and the Radio Academy.
